The Impaler Speaks
@fidlarLA @LustrePearl @Dickies Why was SXSW 2012 so much fun? FIDLAR, for one thing. Vintage Orange County punk reinterpreted through the youth of today, FIDLAR are poised for big things and are worthy of all the praise being heaped upon them. I stumbled into the Dickies party at Lustre Pearl late on a Thursday afternoon during the festival, and proceeded to have my lid flipped fully and completely by these cats.
FIDLAR (Fuck It Dog, Life’s A Risk) are Zac Carp (vocals/guitar), Elvis Kuehn (guitar/vocals), Brandon Schwartzel (bass), and Max Kuehn (drums). Yes, Elvis and Max are the progeny of T.S.O.L. keyboardist Greg Kuehn - a fact I learned while looking for links to embed in this post just today - and that is interesting to me simply because I am a huge fan of T.S.O.L., but otherwise… eh, it’s interesting and that’s it. FIDLAR are doing things on their own terms. And what terms… damn, this was a show for the ages. I can’t wait to see them again. Also, buy their debut 7”, also available as a digital download here. You won’t regret it.
Here’s a panoramic shot of the band at the Dickies party at Lustre Pearl. My apologies to Max, since he is pretty well hidden here.
